Search inside the paper
Scientific papers are written to explain a piece of work, not to answer the question you happen to be asking. A title and abstract might tell you that a method exists; whether you can use it often depends on a preparation step buried in Methods or a qualification in Results. Finding those details usually means opening likely papers and working through them individually. We wanted Marvin to be able to search for the evidence it needs across the literature, with the same access available to the researcher working alongside it.
Consider a spatial transcriptomics study using archived tissue. Before choosing a method, you need to know whether it works with formalin-fixed samples and what resolution the authors actually demonstrated. Atlas lets you search for those conditions within Methods and Results and read the matching passages in context. You can compare the experiments rather than relying on how a method is described in an abstract. A platform’s stated resolution and the resolution achieved in a particular study are different things, and a useful literature review needs to preserve that distinction.

Put the literature to work
This is especially important when Marvin is doing the review for you. You can ask which methods fit the samples you already have, then inspect the source passages behind its comparison or ask it to revisit an assumption. When you want to take the work further, Atlas’s dataset records provide descriptions and download locations for follow-up analysis. The literature review becomes part of the ongoing research project, with its evidence available as you decide what to do next.
